What We Believe

We believe the Bible is the inerrant written word of God, the sufficient and final revelation of God to mankind. It is the only infallible rule for faith and practice. We believe that it reveals one God who exists in three persons: God the Father, God the Son who is Jesus Christ, and God the Holy Spirit. We believe that the Bible reveals what God is like; who mankind was created to be; what sadly, all of mankind became through our first parents’ fall into sin; what God’s subsequent judgments were upon sinners in this world and the next; how Jesus Christ was promised, foreshadowed and prophesied in the Old Testament; and how He was then revealed and explained in the New Testament as the Lord and Savior of all who put their trust in Him.

Our statement of faith is The 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith. We believe that The 1689 is a faithful summary of Biblical teaching. The 1689 sets forth clearly what is commonly called “the doctrines of grace”. This confession has been widely used by Baptists since it was written. In the year 1767, the Charleston Association, a predecessor of the Southern Baptist Convention, formally adopted The 1689. When Jessie Mercer, founder and president of the Georgia Baptist Convention, 1822, bought The Columbian Star and moved it to Washington, GA, in 1839, he sought to ground his readers in the doctrines of grace by reprinting The 1689 in The Christian Index. Later Charles Spurgeon published The 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith for his people as well.
